July 7, 2017

We have had a short VBS schedule this year due to changes and cancellations.  But we have had a great time with the programs we have done.  Make sure to check out the Photo Gallery for the cool photos from this year!

August 13, 2016

Well, to say we had a rough ride home would be an understatement.  We did finally make it - two days late, but still in time for Brenda to get back to work on Thursday.  We spent a couple extra days in Tennessee after the transmission went out i the van.  We had to get a rental car to get us home. But the van is still in Chattanooga.  Joe will drive the rental back up after the repairs are completed. In the meantime, we're trying to figure out how to pay the $4,000 for the new transmission.  We don't normally do this, and not really sure yet if we feel comfortable doing this, but we've posted a fund-raiser for the transmission on YouCaring.com.  Click below to donate.  We have so many people that support our ministry, and we decided we needed to humble ourselves to ask for help with this burden.  We depend on the van to get us and all our equipment around. If you are prayerfully able to help us out with this, THANK YOU!

We are already thinking about next summer when we will get to do the Submerged VBS.  Oooooh! Oceans, and fish and mermaids!  Oh my!

August 5, 2016

I can't believe our summer is almost gone.  Tonight is our last night in Armada, and tomorrow morning we head South for Florida.  Brenda has to be back to work on Thursday!!!!

Next summer our schedule will be a bit different.  Brenda has to be back to work the first week of August, so we will not be able to do any VBS programs in August.  The month of June is up in the air right now.  We want to take a trip to Germany, but it will depend on  whether Brenda can get out of work early.  Pray that all things work for God's glory!

We're having a great time at Armada!  Come and join us!  PICTURES!

July 11, 2016

Well!  I'm a little late posting this year!  We started at Hemans Camp this year, and went straight to Alpena.  Then we returned to Hemans Camp for the 4th of July weekend.  So, we were pretty much without internet for 2 whole weeks.

We have had a great time so far.  We had the pleasure of ministering with Randy and Marli Brown at Hemans Camp.  We're always excited when we both land in the same place!  After finishing up on Sunday morning at Hemans Camp, we drove straight to Alpena and set up to start Monday morning with them.  We had a great group of kids at both camps.  Ten kids came forward during the invitation on the last day!

We have had a few struggles this year with health.  Both of us started sneezing on our way to Michigan.  Brenda's turned into acute sinusitis.  When we arrived in Evart and finally had a couple days to rest, she finally got to a doctor and got a Z pac.  We're hoping that will start working quickly, as she has been exhausted with it.

We finished up yesterday at Evart Free Methodist Church doing the final program for their VBS.  We had 10 kids come forward during the invitation on Friday!  Praise God that he continues to work through us, and despite the illnesses!

Brenda is resting up and getting ready for the Dulcimer Funfest this week.  She will be teaching and learning, with face painting for the kids on Saturday.  Next week we will start at Chippewa Lake Community Church, so we still have a full schedule!

January 9, 2016

Well, it's a new year, and I have been trying to get things going and ready for our new VBS this summer, "Journey Off the Map".  If we are coming to your church, be sure to check out the new links I posted over Christmas break.  I am working on getting a CD together with some of the information you will be needing.

In the meantime, we have to brag about our 'kids'.  Our son is in the Air Force, and January 1, he was promoted to Tech Sergeant.  We got a couple of wonderful surprises from him over the Christmas break.  He made one of those Holiday Greeting videos that go out on local TV stations.  You can see his cool video here.  Also, he got a phone call on Christmas morning from the WHITE HOUSE!!  Yes, a personal phone call from the President of the United States!  His leadership put him in for it, and he was selected.  A snippet of the call made it into this Reuters News Clip.  You can watch it here.

We also got the news from our daughter that she completed her last class for her Bachelors Degree from FSU.  It has to do with animal biology.  My phone died, and that's where I had saved it!  Well, we are proud of her anyway, even if my memory is bad.

August 8, 2015

We have had a great week at Barryton Lighthouse Free Methodist Church!  We have had a wonderful group of people to work with.  We'll be doing our closing program this Sunday at 11 am, with a pig roast to follow!  Be sure to check out the pictures from this week at Barryton Free Methodist VBS Photos!

We'll be starting our last VBS of the season this Wednesday at Bay City Lighthouse Free Methodist Church!  Funny, huh?  Then we'll be on the road home to Florida, and back to the regular job for Brenda!

August 4, 2015

Sunday night we headed North again!  Couldn't get there without going through a storm.  The rain was so hard it sounded like hail hitting the windshield!

We started our first night at Barryton Free Methodist Church last night.  We had a GREAT start!  Come and join us for day 2 tonight at 5:30 pm!

July 30, 2015

Well, this seems to be our summer for weather!  Last night we were at Memphis Free Methodist Church to do a 1 day, 3 hour VBS.  The decorations were up in the fellowship hall, and everything was looking great!!!  Then a storm blew up, and blew a tree over on the power lines.  the power flickered on and off for about 10 minutes before we were to start our program.  Exactly 2 minutes before start time, the power went out for good.  Everyone scrambled to locate a generator.  We turned my computer around that was running on battery, and used that to start the program.  Halfway through the first song, the generator arrived, and we had power for our projector, amp and computer (still no lights, though).  So, we used a lot of flashlights, and made it through the first part of our program.  We broke for the games, snacks and crafts.  One minute before we were ready to start the second half of our program, the generator ran out of gas.  We again started by turning around my computer so the kids could see it, and a short time later, someone got the generator working again.  Ten minutes before we finished our program, the electricity came back on!  I think this is going to be a memorable day for the kids!  There were only a few things we were not able to do because of the dark.  But, the message got through, and the kids had a great time!  We have a few very dark pictures that you can see here.

July 20, 2015

We have finished Day 1 at Chippewa Lake Community Church!  We're having a great time!  Come and join us!  Here are some pics from the first day.

July 11, 2015

We had a challenge last weekend at Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church!  We took our week long VBS, and created a 1 hour program for Sunday morning. We prayed that the important message would come through, and the kids would still have fun.  We had 2 children and one adult come forward during our invitation.  That you, Lord, for blessing our efforts!

We will be finishing up our VBS at South Evart Free Methodist Church tomorrow morning.  We have had a great time, and have had the privilege of training many new agents.  13 came forward during our invitation on Thursday.  Praise God!  We will do our closing service tomorrow morning at 11 am!  Come and see all the Agency D3 Agents have learned!  Be sure to peek at the pictures of the great time we had!

June 25, 2015

Well, here I go, trying to catch up again.  We have been without WiFi for awhile, and the fact that we have it now is due to a tornado!  Let me start at the beginning.

Our first camp this year was in Alpena at the Free Methodist Church Campground.  This is the first year we have been able to do their Bible School program.  First of all, they treated us like royalty!!!  Spoiled us rotten, and we loved it!  We were expecting about 30 kids at the most, and the first day we had 45 show up!  What an incredible surprise!  The Holy Spirit moved throughout the week, and 18 of our students made first time commitments, or renewed their commitments.  We also saw many of the teens come to Christ.  We even had some baptisms (in a cold pool)!  Be sure to see the pictures of our time at Alpena!

We went straight from Alpena on Saturday to Hemans Camp.  We got everything set up and ready to go, and had a great start to our Bible School on Monday morning.  Some storms started moving in on Monday afternoon, and we had to cut face painting a little short.  Monday evening, about 10:15 pm, a tornado came through the South end of the campground heading East.  Praise God it did not touch down, but it came through low enough that it snapped many of the huge, old trees off, and many cabins, trailers and vehicles were damaged by the falling trees.  Our van was hit by a branch and shattered the passenger side window, and dented in the door.  The top of a tree landed on our cabin we were staying in, and did some damage to the roof.  God protected us, and the only injury in camp was a sprained ankle.  It is a miracle that was the only injury.  There are many stories about people moving to the other side of the cabin just moments before a tree landed where they were sitting, or a bunk bed in a trailer smashed in 5 minutes before it would have been filled.  The playground area was hit hard, and yet some of the trailers filled with children sitting right next to the playground were spared as trees were pinned by other trees, or fell the other way.  Others trailers were totaled, but no one was hurt.  The tornado touched down just across the road from the camp, and continued on for 20 miles, destroying homes and farms.  (Still, no one was injured!)

Anyway, camp has been canceled, and we are now recouping in Marysville.  Be sure to take a look at the pictures of the Bible School and the tornado damage.

A special thanks to all the local people that showed up early Tuesday morning and started removing the broken trees!  It was amazing!

July 24, 2014

We are having an AMAZING time at Chippewa Lake Community Church!!!  We still have one more day left!  Come on and join us!  Praise God for the many salvations this week.  See some of the pictures here:  Chippewa Lake Community Church pics

July 12, 2014

We've had a busy couple of weeks!  We did a one day VBS at Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church, and what a wonderful time we had!  Be sure to look at the pictures!

Pleasant Valley FM VBS Pics

We had a couple days to rest and relax at a friends' gorgeous place up North.  We had a friendly deer that came to visit us often.  From there, we headed to Evart.  What an incredible time we had at the South Evart Free Methodist Church!  Our last program was on Friday, and we'll be doing the program for parents on Sunday morning.  So come visit us if you're in the area.  God blessed us with 10 salvations on Friday!  Everyone had a great time!  I have TONS of pictures, but I don't have access to unlimited WiFi at the moment.  As soon as I do, I'll upload BUNCHES of pictures.  In the meantime, I put up a couple so you can see our great group!

We are on the road and on our way to Michigan!  If we are scheduled to do your VBS and you have not received an e-mail from me with the download information for promotional materials, games and crafts, please let me know!  We're gearing up for our first VBS next week in Owosso!  Pray for us for safe travels.  Also, our mobile home was damaged last winter, and that is where we keep our equipment.  We're having difficulty getting it repaired.  Please pray that situation is resolved quickly!

March 28, 2014

Brenda has been on Spring Break this week, and has used the opportunity to get a lot of work done to prepare for this summer's VBS, Colossal Coaster World!  If we are scheduled to do VBS at your church, we will be contacting you with the links for downloading many of the materials for your program.

Also, if you had not heard, the PT Cruzer that worked so well for us last year, was rear-ended and totaled.  We have been praying for a number of years now to get a Town and Country mini van with the Stow and Go seating.  This vehicle will give us the room to transport all our equipment, and still have a little bit of fuel economy.  This week, we purchased one!  It is a 2010, and in very good shape.  We are praying that with Brenda's consistent income from the schools, the payments will be affordable!  Of course, because of the job, our summer will be shorter this summer.  Brenda has to be back to work by August 14.  We have a packed summer!!!!  Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support for our ministry.

September 9, 2013

Well!  We finished our last VBS in Owosso, MI on August 25.  We packed up, and immediately got on the road for Florida.  Brenda interviewed for a job in the schools over the summer, and got the job!  So, since school starts early in Florida, we had to skedaddle back ASAP.  We got home on Tuesday, and Brenda was down to Human Resources on Wednesday, and started work on Thursday!  So...still trying to get caught up on getting the web site updated.  This also means that next summer will be a bit abbreviated.  They let her start a little late this year, but next year we'll have to be back by the beginning of school.  Anyway, here are the pictures from Owosso!  OWOSSO PICTURES

August 17, 2013

I am way behind on my blogging!  It has been SUCH a busy summer.  But God has been blessing our ministry like never before!

We had a GREAT time at the Dulcimer Festival.  On the last weekend, we did a program for Chippewa Lake Community Church, where we saw 5 salvations!  We spent a little time at Joe's moms place, and were able to spend a couple days at Brown City Camp.  Jethro was asked to M.C. a Talent Show at the St. Louis Church of God Campground.  The next morning, we did a program for the children, where we saw another 7 salvations!  We did a Sunday morning program for the Faith Free Methodist Church in Snover.  We are currently finishing up the VBS program at the South Evart Free Methodist Church, where we have had 11 salvations!  Thanks to everyone who has prayed for our ministry this summer!  God has been faithful in so many ways, and we couldn't do it without your support!

July 15, 2013

Things have been busy!  Last week, we had a great week in Mayville at the Pleasant View Free Methodist Church.  Click here for pictures!  Last Sunday morning, we did the service at the South Evart Free Methodist Church.  We will be there again in August to do their VBS program.  Now, we're gearing up for the Dulcimer Festival!   Brenda will be teaching workshops this week, and will be doing face painting for the children one day.

July 1, 2013

What an awesome week at Hemans Camp.  There was great music and preaching.  We got to see old friends and meet new ones.  We had an average of 15-25 children every day through the week at Bible School, and we had a great time!  Be sure to take a look at the photos!

June 22, 2013

Wow!  What an incredible time we have had at Blue Water Free Methodist Church!  We have had an awesome bunch of kids, and some great adult volunteers!  Be sure to look at the photos!  Last night, 15 children came forward to invite Jesus into their hearts.  Hallelujah! Today, Jethro and Pastor Randy got a pie in the face!  I noticed a few other people ended up wearing pie, too.  They had a great fun day today after the program, with a picnic, water games and hay ride.  Tomorrow morning we'll finish up our last program during morning worship.

We will be packing up immediately after church, loading up and heading for Hemans Camp, which starts TOMORROW NIGHT!  If you live in the area, be sure to come by for a wonderful, spirit filled camp.

June 10, 2013

Praise the Lord, the car is repaired.  We did a test pack, and it looks like we're going to be able to fit everything in it without having to take out the middle seats!   yay!

Good news for those churches where we are doing VBS, yesterday our church gave us some unused decorations that had not been returned to the store.  That means, they will be available for all of you to use!  There are posters on very nice, heavy paper, and 5 streamers that make a large backdrop, also on heavy paper.  So, I'm looking for ideas on how to put these up.  The instructions say to get large foam core board and paste it on these, but that will not work in our situation, as we'll be traveling all over with them!  I also want to keep them in good condition so they are not ruined by the end of summer.  I usually use the tacky putty to put stuff up, but I'm not sure if that will be strong enough.

Also, I have a number of documents you can use to print the daily scriptures, etc.  Go to our AWA VBS download page to get these.

Because of a cancellation and a rescheduling, and because our daughter-in-law and granddaughters are here with us in Florida for a few days, we are not leaving for Michigan until Friday.  Please pray we have safe travel!

June 3, 2013

I have a lot of information listed on the web site for our VBS programs.  Churches may contact me for more information on games, crafts and decorations, which I can e-mail to you!

This is it!  My last week to get ready.  I have taken off work to clean, pack, and finish up the final details of our summer program.  Next week we will be on the ROAD!

We have purchased a Hot Spot, so I am hoping to have better access to my e-mail this summer.  We will find out how good the connectivity is in certain spots where we usually have very poor reception!

Please continue to pray for our car situation.  We purchased another used car, and it's making clunking noises!!!  There is a possibility that we may have to borrow a vehicle for the summer if we do not get this one working properly.

March 26, 2013

Well, we're gearing up again for the summer!  Our church has given us all of their VBS materials PTL!  So our theme this summer will be "Amazing Wonders Aviation".  Right now, I'm trying to get the information up on our web site for the churches we will be ministering in, and trying to adjust the program to fit with Jethro and the other things that are such a part of our programs..

Thanks to everyone for your prayer and financial support!

If you have not contacted us yet to schedule us for your church, please do so before we leave at the end of May.

August 26, 2012

Wow!  What a great time we had at Saginaw First Free Methodist Church!  They have an overnight VBS that starts at 4:00 pm on Friday, and goes to 4:00 pm on Saturday.  We did all 6 of our Alien Kids programs in that period.  We did get to sleep!!!!  The kids bunk down at night in tents.  We weren't that adventurous, and we stayed at a hotel.  But we had a great group of kids.  We had lots of fun!  We also did an overview for the parents on Sunday morning, and Brenda played offertory on the dulcimer.  Be sure to look at the pictures !

August 6, 2012

Had a great time with our granddaughters!  We're staying at Brown City Camp now.  It is Family Camp time.  Our son brought the girls over for a couple of days!  Was so glad to see him again.  First time since he moved to North Dakota in January.  Just finished up a senior program last night at St. Louis (MI) Church of God Campground.  We had a great time!  This morning, we're headed back over to do a few minutes for the kids program.  Then back to Brown City.  We'll be leaving at the end of the week to head for North Dakota to spend a little time with our son and his family.  We're taking some Amish folks with us, and dropping them off in Wisconsin so they can visit for awhile.  We have to be back in Michigan to do an overnight VBS program on Aug. 24 in Saginaw.  That will be a first for us!

July 28, 2012

Wow!  Have we ever been busy!  We spent about two weeks in the Evart, MI area.  On July 8, we did a Sunday morning service for Sears Church of God.  We spent the week after that doing a little traveling, visiting some family, and taking our 34'th honeymoon on Mackinac Island!  On July 15th, we did a Sunday morning service at South Evart Free Methodist Church.  This is the first time these folks have been exposed to Jethro, but they all made us feel welcome anyway!  The next week was the dulcimer festival.  I took a few workshops, saw lots of old friends, taught a couple workshops with Ida, and did face painting on Friday for the children.  Georgia helped me out again with the face painting - Thanks Georgia!  The following Sunday we did a Sunday morning service at Chippewa Lake Community Church.  Those folks always make us feel like we're home!  We had to skedaddle out of there, and head South on Sunday afternoon.  We skooted down to Gatlinburg, TN for the ECA (Evangelical Church Alliance) Conference.  We did a program there for the children of the pastors and chaplains attending the conference.  This was the first time they've had a structured program for the children, so we had free reign to try whatever we wanted.  In the morning while their parents were attending sessions, we did workshops for the kids.  We taught them illusions, sign language and all sorts of creative ways they could share the gospel with their friends.  In the evenings, we did our "Alien Kids" program.  We're hoping we gave them some useful and inspiring tools to take home with them!  Now we're on our way to pick up our granddaughters for a couple of days!!!!

July 5, 2012

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July!!!  Joe took some Amish folks to a birthday party, while I spent the day catching up on stuff that had gotten behind during Hemans Camp.  Then we headed to Joe's mom's, and were able to watch fireworks down by the St. Clair River.

The week at Hemans Camp was fabulous!!!  We had a great bunch of kids.  The cross that Roy made us in Owosso was COVERED with prayer requests that we prayed for every day!!  We did crafts and games and face painting and lovely weather all week.  Check out our pictures!

We're getting ready to head up to Evart.  We'll be at the Sears Church of God, the South Evart Free Methodist Church, the Evart Funfest (dulcimer festival), and Chippewa Lake Community Church.  So, a BUSY two weeks coming up.

June 14, 2012

We completed our first VBS at Owosso Free Methodist Church on Sunday.  It is always such a pleasure visiting this church.  We did programs on Thursday and Friday evening.  On Saturday, we did an earlier program, then the church gathered for a picnic afterwards.  It was a gorgeous day!!!!  We are resting and catching up on laundry and computer stuff right now.  We will be heading back to Hemans next week to get set up for the Bible School program that start on June 24.  We'll be posting pictures here .

May 21, 2012

Well, we're gearing up and getting ready to head North!  Two more weeks to get it all together.  I've changed the style of the web page.  Do you like it?  AND Exciting stuff - I finally finished my CD, "Sweet Favorites".  I didn't think I would ever do a CD, but I've had a lot of requests.  So, with the help of a friend, we put this together!  Check out my music page.

March 15, 2012

Well, I'm hard at work getting our summer program together.  Check out the "This Summer" link on the right for more information on our "P.U.S.H." program.  Also, tentatively, I'm working on getting a music CD together, and hope to have copies available by the time we leave for Michigan.  Please pray that all goes well!!!  It is SO complicated (which is why I never did a CD before).

Sept 8, 2011

We are back home in Florida!!!  We just finished a program for the Seniors today at Scott Lake Baptist Church.  We had a great time (and they fed us well!)  We'll be going to the Consulate Health Care facility tomorrow, and every other Friday after that.  Joe is working at the church, and has Fridays off.  So far, Brenda has not been able to get any work at the schools, as they have a hiring freeze on.  Still hoping to possibly get into a long term sub position, but if not, we'll be looking for something else.  Keep us in your prayers!

August 23, 2011

Well, it has been awhile since I had time to sit down and update this where I had some WiFi!  We've been a lot of places, and most of them did not have WiFi available.

On July 31, we did a program Sunday morning for the Faith Free Methodist Church in Snover.  On Wednesday, August 3, we did a night of VBS for the Pleasant View Free Methodist Church in Mayville.  Right after that, Brown City Family Camp started, and we had a few days to relax and get our breath back!  That was nice.

On August 14 we went to the Wahjamega Country Church.  We'll be going back there next year to do their VBS program.

We had planned to leave around August 15, but because of the problems we've had with our car, we were not able to.  We did take an extra couple days to go visit our friends in Evart.  We went to Georgia's family reunion and visited Lake Michigan.  We did a couple things for their church (Chippewa Lake Community Church) on Sunday morning, then we headed to the nursing home in Reed City, where Steve's parents live.  We took along the dulcimer and Jethro to do a couple things, and it turned out the folks who were supposed to do the church service that day had cancelled.  So we filled in with music and Jethro!Ri

Right now we're in Marysville, and if all goes well, we will leave tomorrow morning, and make a stop in Kentucky, and maybe in Georgia.

August 1, 2011

We're excited that our son will be home soon from the Middle East.  We'll heading to Florida around August 15, and will get to see him!!!!

We had a great time at the Evart Dulcimer Festival.  It's always so nice to get together with music friends that we only see once a year.  We always enjoy going back to Chippewa Lake Community Church.  They're like family.  Saturday night, the head-gasket went out on our car.  Sunday, two fellows from the church came over, picked up the car, and took it to a mechanic for us.  The next day, we had our car back!!!  Thanks Clyde and Ted for your help!

We spent three nights on Mackinac Island doing ministry with the Mackinac Island Bible Church.  We did the childrens' church Sunday morning.  Then we traveled back into the island, and stayed with a family there Sunday night.  They had a bonfire, and Jessa and Jordan Anderson (who did the music Sunday morning for the adults), led our music and worship time at the campfire.  We had a wonderful time (be sure and look at the pictures).  Monday, we went to British Landing and did free face painting for the children (and some adults) riding around the island.  Tuesday, we were at Turtle Park, doing the Tuesday Club.  We shared some of our Alien Kids program, music, face painting and illusions.  Thanks to Christi for coming up with some games for the kids while I was face painting, and to her and Jeff for opening their home to us!!!!

July 17, 2011

Wow!  We had a great time at the Sears Church of God last Sunday.  Thanks to everyone there who made us feel so welcome!  This is the first time we have ministered at this church, and despite the fact that the woman who got us invited (Vernice) wasn't there, we really felt welcome.  Jethro showed up again.  I only got one picture while we were there, and somehow Jethro got in it.  I put it in a Miscellaneous Summer 2011 album on Photobucket.  I will be adding more to this album over the summer.

We are in Evart right now, and the Evart Funfest starts in 2 days!!!!  That's the dulcimer festival for those who don't know.  I will be teaching a couple workshops with Ida (Praise and Worship on the dulcimer), and face painting for the children's workshops on Saturday afternoon.  Next Sunday we'll be in the Chippewa Lake Community Church with our friends Steve and Georgia, who so graciously are putting up with us for a couple weeks!

July 4, 2011

Wow!  What a week we had at Hemans Camp!   We knew God had great things planned for this week when we had so many problems getting there.  But He does good work through all our trials, and not only did we have a fabulous week, we got lots of work done on our car!  We were surprised at the large numbers of children attending.  Our largest day last year was about 27.  This year we started with 38 and went up to 40 by Tuesday!  The kids loved the alien theme, and we learned so much about how to be an alien for Jesus.  Jethro even joined us every once in a while.  Thursday morning was interesting.  Just as we were ready to start, the power went out throughout the whole camp.  We made do with my computer on battery power for our music and video.  We just had to be very quiet!  During our lesson on "We come in Peace", 9 children came forward so we could pray that God would help them be peacemakers.  Be sure to check out our photos.  I have split them into Bible School and Misc, and Face Painting and Aliens because there are so many.

June 17, 2011

We have had a great week at Owosso Free Methodist Church!  We started the VBS program on Sunday evening, and continued with programs on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday!  Thanks to Pastor Mark for inviting us!  Special thanks to Kathy for being my organizer, photographer, craft person and artist (she made the cool stand-up aliens).  You can look here to see some cool pics of all our fun!  Also thanks to Bobbi, who jumped in and learned some cool face painting techniques and helped me with that!  She did a great job.  And thanks to Jolene, Joe and Lisa for doing the games, Madbely and Janet for snacks and Myrna for doing sign-up.  What a great crew!

June 7, 2011

We had a great time in Cartersville, GA at the Grace Baptist Church. We did an intro to our program for the children's Sunday School in the morning. We are having a lot of fun with our'Alien Kids' theme this year! Brenda did the offertory for the main service with her dulcimer. That was fun, as their were many folks there that had never seen a dulcimer before. We also did a full program for the children in the evening service. We had a bit of technical problems getting our computer hooked up to the TV, so pray we'll be able to overcome those glitches in future programs! We're spending a couple days with some friends in Kentucky, then we'll head North to Michigan!

May 23, 2011

Happy New Year!  We have been looking through and trying to decide on the theme for this year's VBS and Bible School programs.  I'm leaning toward "Armor of God", but a final decision hasn't been made.  We hope to have some new, interesting music and games this year to add to our program.  We'll be sending out some letters soon to our contacts in Michigan (and on the way to and from) to start setting up dates for this summer.  If you have a date you really want us, let us know ASAP, as last year we were busy every week.  Down here in Florida, Brenda has been busy subbing at the schools, but we were able to minister last Thursday at the Lighthouse Ministry Women and Childrens' shelter.  We always love going there, and hope we'll be able to go again before leaving for Michigan.

We made it back to Florida last week!  We are so happy to be home.  We made a stop in Kentucky on the way down, and was able to do some ministry at a nursing home, and at a church for the children who are bussed in.  Things aren't looking like they are go to slow down right away.  We went to the Gospel Music Coffee House last Saturday, and Jethro made an appearance.  We'll go again in a couple weeks, and Brenda will take her dulcimer.  Next weekend we'll be busy with KBC's World Mission Conference.  Our choir will be singing for the services, and on Saturday, Brenda will be face painting at the block party.  Jethro may show up there, but he's also wanting to go to the nursing homes.  I don't think he's made a final decision about that yet.  Thanks to everyone who supported us with prayer and finances over this summer.  We traveled over 14,000 miles!

Things have been busy since Owosso!  Over Labor Day weekend, we did an early morning service at Crystal Lake Campground, then to the Cass River Bible Church right after that.  Things were a bit chilly, but we met Bruce, who invited us to do a program for their childrens' group in Oxford at Christ the King Church on Sept. 15.  We had a GREAT time there.  His enthusiasm is infectious.    On September 12, we went to the Brown City United Methodist Church.  Brenda played a special during the service, Joe did the Young Disciples sermon, then we went downstairs and did the Children's Church program.  Brenda even got to do a short, impromptu concert afterward!  The next day, we did a program for the "Over 50's" group in Brown City.   It was a lovely day for an outdoor program.  We are in Evart right now.  We'll be meeting with the Chippewa Lake Church to discuss doing VBS next year, then we're off to Mackinac Island for our annual honeymoon, and to make some connections with the Pastor of the Bible Church on the Island.  Hoping to be heading back South soon, but we don't have an exact date yet.  We may have one more booking!  Go HERE to see some pics.

What a great time at Owosso Free Methodist Church.  Their VBS program was August 26, 27 and 28, with a program during Sunday morning service on the 28th.  Click here to see more!

We have had a busy couple of weeks.  From Greenville, we went West to Cartersville, GA and did a children's church program for the Grace Baptist Church.  We left there (after the potluck, of course) for Rocky Mount, VA.  We visited with some friends, and had a nice time of relaxing.  From there, we went back to Flemingsburg, KY.  We went to a nursing home Saturday afternoon, a campground Sunday morning, then to the church, where we did some things for the Junior Church.  After they got a look at the dulcimer, Brenda also played for the evening service!

August 14, 2010

We left Greenville, SC this morning from our week long mission trip with other families from KBC.  We are now in Cartersville, GA, where we will be ministering tomorrow morning to the children at Grace Baptist Church.  We had a great week in Greenville,  Read more and see pics HERE.

We had an interesting week.  We stayed in a cabin at Hemans Camp, but our Amish friends wanted to come up for a small vacation.  So Joe drove the half hour to their house to pick them up.  There are nine of them, so it takes two trips in our Buick.  Also, they have chores and cows to milk, so he had to take a load down twice a day for that.  They were there most of the week, except Thursday, when they had company coming.  On Friday we took them all up to "Noah's Ark", a small amusement park for children, with a picnic area and pond.  The children had a great time!  Well, I think Henry (the dad) did too.  The boys didn't want to wear their hats while they were riding the rides, so Henry had three straw hats on his head as he ran around and helped them onto the rides.  It was quite a sight.

Sunday, we went to the Faith Free Methodist Church in Snover.  Jethro showed up, but Brenda had a great time trying out some of the new things she learned at the Dulcimer Festival.  We went on to Brown City in the afternoon for a family reunion, and we're resting a couple of days now, until Brown City Camp starts on Thursday.

July 19, 2010

Well, we've had a busy week.  The Evart Funfest (Dulcimer Festival) was this week in Evart, MI.  Brenda spent most of her time there, seeing old friends, playing music, teaching, and even learning a bit!  On Saturday, Brenda participated in the youth program by doing some face painting.  Our friend, Georgia, had a crash course in doing some of Brenda's faces, and helped out, while Joe did crowd control (he had the hardest job!)  Georgia did great, and between the two of them, painted at least 35 faces that day.  It was too chaotic to get any pics.  They were lined up 15 minutes before it was time to start.

On Sunday, we headed over to the Chippewa Lake Communuty Church, and Brenda and Jethro did a program in the Sunday morning service.  Jethro was really wound up, but I think most everyone enjoyed the program.  We're heading back down South soon.  Today we're catching up on paying bills and doing laundry.  We plan to pick up our Amish friends and take them up to Hemans Camp for a couple days.  It's kind of a mini-vacation for them, and hopefully should be nice and relaxing for us, too.

July 13, 2010

We had a nice, relaxing weekend over Fourth of July.  We stayed at Hemans Camp, and the Bikers for Christ group was there with us  Sadly, Dave Raymond, founder of the local group, was killed a few days later when his motorcycle hit a deer.  We attended his funeral yesterday.  It was the largest funeral we ever attended.  On July 10, we traveled to St. Louis, MI to do a program for the Jesus Coffee House.  We drove up to Evart last night, and looking forward to the Dulcimer Funfest and we'll be doing a program for the Chippewa Lake Community Church next Sunday.

June 29, 2010

We've just finished doing the Bible School program for the week at Hemans Camp!  We have a few days of rest before we head North.  We've added a bunch of stuff to our schedule, so be sure to check our calendar.   Read more about Hemans Camp here.

KBC prayed us out on Sunday night, to go and do the Lord's work over the summer. We really appreciate the support of our church! We are leaving for Michigan and heading straight to Hemans Camp to prepare for the Children's program there. We are teaching about Noah this year.

Had a wonderful time with the Ladies of Grace at Kathleen Baptist Church! Thanks for inviting us ladies!

April 19, 2010

We had a great conference in Michigan last week at the 2010 EMFCM Creative Ministries Conference.  Brenda was mostly at the registration desk, but also taught her standard "Sign Language to Music" class.  She also co-taught a new and exciting class with Anna Wilinski on using face painting in ministry.  Joe taught three different classes this year, one on ropes, one on cheap tricks, and one on developing patter for your illusions.  You can read about the conference and see some great pictures at http://www.emfcm.org/2010Conf/2010conference.htm.

In home news, we have a new grandbaby!  Lucy Ella Ross, and our son is home from Kuwait!  Good news all around.

March 16, 2010

We have been busy, but with so many things! We did a program at a seniors park on Feb. 20 that went very well. We have been to Lighthouse Ministry twice. On March 4, we did chapel for the staff, and March 11, we did chapel for the Women and Children shelter. Life has been busy this week with a new grandbaby, surgery for Joe, and Emma's birthday coming up. Wow!

September 30, 2009

Looks like I'm way behind on updates!  So much has happened, I'm not sure where to start. Our trip to Indiana was fabulous.  We had a great time in Evart.  We had a week long trip to Wisconsin with an Amish Family.  We stopped in Kentucky to minister on our way to Florida.  We flew my mom to Kentucky, and she traveled with us back to Florida by way of Tennessee, where we were looking for some geneology stuff.  Tomorrow night we're ministering to the seniors at Kathleen Baptist.  Wow!  This is very abbreviated, but I've posted a more detailed account HERE.

July 11, 2009

We are leaving tomorrow for Indiana for the International FCM conference.  This is sort of a scouting trip to try to find new workshop leaders for our conference we do in the Spring.  We'll be going straight from there to Evart, MI.  I hope to get in a day of the dulcimer festival, and we're doing a program for Steve Scott's church on Sunday.  BTW, I figured out how to get into the groups on my phone, so I'll be able to monitor this site from just about anywhere!  Yay!

July 4, 2009

I've posted a few pictures and a summary of the Hemans Camp Bible School program.  I do have a few more pictures on Facebook (I don't have to reformat all those, so it's easier to post a lot of them).  We have about one more week to stay in the trailer at Hemans, then we'll be heading to Indiana for the International FCM Conference.

June 15, 2009

We are set up at Hemans Camp with a Fifth Wheel from the Kincaids!  While we enjoyed staying in the cabin last year, it's nice to have a place with a bathroom in it!  We'll be at Hemans Camp for 3 weeks.  We will leave for the International FCM Conference in Indiana on July 12.

I set up a Facebook page for Set Free and for myself (Brenda).  Don't know yet if I'll be able to do a lot of updates there, but I'll try.  I got Internet on my phone for the summer, but haven't figured out yet how to get the groups up.  Anyway, be sure to look us up (Joe doesn't get on the computer much, so you probably won't see a page for him!

June 1, 2009

Well, I haven't updated in a while!  We have been busy the last few months.  We did a program for the seniors last month, and enjoyed that immensely.  In April, we drove to Michigan for the Creative Ministries Conference.  We had a great time there, and had lots of wonderful workshops.  We are in the process of trying to get a conference down here in Florida next year.  We have a lot of people in our church interested, so be watching for more details of that.

We are leaving tomorrow morning to head back to Michigan.  We still have a few things to do to get ready for the Hemans Camp Children's program that starts June 21.  Our theme this year is Jonah.  More details later!
