Remembering Joe

Joe was the kind of person who never turned anyone away. He delighted in conversation, enjoyed sharing meals, and was always eager to lend a helping hand. His creativity, humor, and boundless energy touched everyone around him. Above all, he shared the love of Jesus with everyone he encountered. This page honors his memory and celebrates his remarkable life.

We got married in 1979 and were blessed with two children—Tiffany in 1981 and Adam in 1985. Joe adored his kids and had an insatiable love for adventure. That’s how we ended up on top of Mount Evans. Joe was always ready for something new, often on a whim, which could be pretty challenging for me since I prefer a little notice! Still, thanks to his adventurous nature, we visited so many places I never would have experienced otherwise.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

Joe’s true passion was ministry. Jeremiah 29:11 was his life verse. Throughout his life, he held a variety of positions—he farmed, drove trucks, worked in factories, and spent 25 years serving in the school system. Joe had a special place in his heart for children and took great joy in sharing the gospel with them. If it had been possible, he would have gladly devoted all his time to children’s ministry instead of working.

In his final years, Joe’s passion for helping others expanded to include feeding those around him. He often baked several loaves of bread at a time, distributing them to friends, neighbors, and even strangers. Much of his days were spent assisting others—whether it was giving rides to appointments, the airport, or to go shopping. He simply couldn’t turn away anyone who needed help.

Here are links to Joe’s memorial services—one in Lakeland, Florida and the other in Port Huron, Michigan. The turnout was incredible; I lost track of the number of people who came to honor him. We had church! All were full of joy and gratitude as we celebrated a life that touched so many.
